Framer vs WordPress

WordPress runs a large share of the web and can do almost anything with enough plugins and development. Framer does less, with far less upkeep. This page helps you choose for a B2B software or AI marketing site.

The short answer

Choose Framer if you want a fast, design-led marketing site your team can change without plugins, updates or a developer on call. Choose WordPress if you run a large publishing operation, depend on plugins such as WooCommerce or membership tools, or need to host the site yourself. We build in Framer. We don’t build WordPress sites.

At a glance

Framer

WordPress

Editing

Framer

A visual canvas for layout. Editors change text and CMS items on the live page.

WordPress

A block editor for posts and pages. Your layout freedom depends on the theme or page builder.

Framer

Collections with plan limits on collections and items.

WordPress

Very flexible: custom post types, taxonomies and custom fields, with no platform cap on items.

Design control

Framer

High, on one canvas, with animation built in.

WordPress

Depends on the theme. Full control means custom theme development.

Hosting

Framer

Hosted by Framer. No HTML export for self-hosting.

Host it anywhere, on your own server, a managed WordPress host or WordPress.com. Someone has to own updates, backups and security.

How to decide

Who changes the site

Choose Framer if

Designers and marketers change pages often and want to publish without a developer.

Choose WordPress if

Most changes are new posts in a fixed template, and a developer handles anything structural.

How much content you manage

Choose Framer if

Your content is a blog, case studies and a few other collections in the low thousands of items.

Choose WordPress if

You run a large archive with complex categories, many authors and an editorial workflow with roles and approvals.

Who keeps it running

Choose Framer if

You’d rather not manage hosting, plugin updates or security patches. Framer handles the platform.

Choose WordPress if

You have a developer or managed host who keeps the core software, theme and plugins up to date.

What the site needs to do

Choose Framer if

The site explains your product and brings visitors to a conversation, with pages, a blog, forms and a few embedded tools.

Choose WordPress if

You need features that exist mainly as WordPress plugins, such as WooCommerce, course platforms, member directories or forums.

Where it has to live

Choose Framer if

You’re fine with Framer hosting the site.

Choose WordPress if

You must self-host, for example for data residency or internal security rules, or you want direct access to the code and database.

What it costs

Framer

Framer is a monthly plan per site. Extra pages, CMS items, locales and editor seats are add-ons. The cost is predictable, and there’s little to maintain.

WordPress

WordPress software is free and open source. You pay for hosting, any premium theme or plugins, and the developer time that keeps everything updated and working together. Costs range widely, from a cheap shared host to a managed enterprise setup.

Time is the bigger difference. On WordPress, someone has to own updates and fix what breaks. On Framer, that time goes into the site itself. For most B2B marketing sites, that matters more than the monthly fee.

How we help

We design and build marketing sites in Framer and Webflow. If WordPress is the right answer for you, we’ll say so. And if your own developer builds in WordPress, we can design the site in Figma for them.

We’re an Official Framer Expert. If you’re moving off WordPress, we plan the move around your existing URLs and content so search traffic carries over. See WordPress to Framer.
