Value proposition

A value proposition is a short statement of the specific result a buyer gets from your product, and why they should believe you can deliver it.

What it means in practice

A value proposition tells a buyer what they get, why it matters to them and why this product beats the alternatives. It’s usually one headline-length sentence plus a line or two of support. It describes an outcome the buyer cares about, like hours saved, risk reduced or revenue protected, in words the buyer would use.

Features and value propositions are different things. “Real-time anomaly detection” describes a feature. “Catch billing errors before your customers do” describes a result and who benefits from it. (Both lines are made up for this page.)

Strong value propositions are specific. A good test is whether a competitor could put your sentence on their homepage without changing a word. If one could, the sentence needs more work.

Most products have more than one value proposition, one per buyer or use case. The homepage usually carries the main one. Product, solution and industry pages carry the rest, and all of them should connect back to the main one.

Why it matters for B2B and AI teams

B2B buyers compare options on value they can explain to their manager. If your page leads with features, the buyer has to translate them into an outcome, and many won’t bother.

AI products make this harder, because the capability is often impressive and the result vague. A line like “Uses AI to analyze conversations” says what the product does. The value proposition says what changes for the team that uses it, and buyers who have seen plenty of AI demos look for that change first.

A clear value proposition also gives sales and marketing the same opening line. That matters more as the team grows and more people describe the product on its behalf.

How we approach it

Our tagline doubles as the studio’s value proposition: “Make your product easier to understand”. It names the outcome a founder or marketing lead wants from a brand and website project, in plain words.

On projects, the value proposition comes out of positioning and sits at the top of the messaging hierarchy. That way it shapes the homepage before visual design goes further.

For Customer Conversations, the homepage explains AI customer interviews through a familiar comparison with customer surveys.

FAQ

They can overlap. A tagline is a short, memorable brand line that stays for years. A value proposition is the specific promise, and it may change by page or audience. Sometimes one sentence does both jobs, as ours does.

Show it to a few target buyers and ask them to describe back what the product does and who it’s for. If their answer matches your intent, it’s working. Sales call notes and support tickets are good sources of the buyer’s own words.

Pages for different products, audiences or use cases usually do. Each one should connect to the main value proposition, so the site still reads as one company.
