AI agent
An AI agent is software that uses a language model to work toward a goal. It plans steps, uses tools and acts with some independence.

What it means in practice
A basic chatbot answers a question. An agent can act. It can search a database, call an API, draft and send an email or update a record, then decide what to do next based on the result. Most agents combine a model, a set of tools they’re allowed to use, some memory and rules for when to stop or ask a person.
In B2B software, “agent” now covers a wide range. There are support agents that resolve tickets, sales agents that research accounts, coding agents and internal agents that run workflows. Some act alone. Many keep a person in the loop to approve actions.
Marketing uses the word loosely. Products sold as agents range from simple automations to systems that plan and act across many steps.
Why it matters for B2B and AI teams
Buyers have heard “agent” so often that it barely registers. What they want to know is what yours does, what it can access, when a person signs off and how it fits the systems they already run.
So an agent company’s website has to answer those questions plainly. Control, security and integration often worry buyers more than raw capability. A simple diagram of where the agent sits in an existing stack can do a lot of the explaining.
How we approach it
We design brands and websites for AI companies. With agent products, the hard part is usually explaining what the product does and where it fits.
For OpaqAI, which works in AI agent governance, we designed a four-page website. We redrew the core diagram so OpaqAI shows up only where it acts. OpaqAI’s team built the site.
FAQ
A chatbot responds to messages. An agent can take actions with tools, follow plans with several steps and work toward a goal, sometimes without a person prompting each step.
Lead with the job the agent does and the result. Show how it works with a simple diagram or demo, and address control, security and integration head-on.
Use the word if buyers search for it and it describes the product accurately. Pair it with a specific description of the job, because the word alone won’t set you apart.
