AEO (answer engine optimization)
AEO (answer engine optimization) is the work of structuring content so search features and AI assistants can find it, understand it and use it in direct answers.

SEO and AEO
What it means in practice
Answer engines reply to a question with an answer, often citing a few sources. They include Google’s AI Overviews and featured snippets, ChatGPT search, Perplexity and Microsoft Copilot. AEO aims to make your content one of those sources.
In practice, AEO looks a lot like good writing. Pages answer specific questions near the top. Headings use the words people use when they ask. Definitions, comparisons and steps are easy to lift out. Facts about the company, product and pricing read the same way everywhere. Structured data, sound technical SEO and a clear site structure help machines read all of it.
It reaches past your own site too. Answer engines draw on reviews, directories, forums, comparison articles and docs, so how you’re described there counts as well.
Why it matters for B2B and AI teams
More B2B buyers now start research by asking an AI assistant which tools do a job, how two products compare or what something costs. If your product isn’t described clearly anywhere the assistant looks, it won’t make the answer.
For AI companies there’s an extra layer. Buyers expect an AI company to show up when they ask about its category.
AEO is still young. Measurement is thin, and AI systems change how they pick sources often. Treat it as a discipline built on clear content and structure, and be wary of anyone promising guaranteed placement.
How we approach it
The clarity AEO rewards is what our work is built around. Our tagline is “Make your product easier to understand”, and a page that’s easy for a buyer to understand is easier for an answer engine to quote.
For 3 Acres, we designed and built a Framer website that connects property discovery with the path to a tour, with AEO in the scope.
FAQ
SEO aims to rank pages in search results. AEO aims to get your content used in direct answers, AI-generated ones included. Most of the groundwork is shared.
They overlap heavily. GEO (generative engine optimization) focuses on answers written by AI models. AEO is often used more broadly and also covers featured snippets and voice search.
Check whether AI assistants mention and cite you for your key questions, track referral traffic from AI tools in analytics, and watch branded search. The tools for this are still maturing.
